ROTOTO: Everyday Essentials, Made in Japan

Sometimes an outfit comes together with the smallest addition: a patterned sock above a loafer, a soft scarf tucked into a coat, or an indigo beanie worn with a favorite jacket. ROTOTO gives those everyday pieces the attention they deserve.

Our latest selection at Lawrence Covell brings together Japanese socks, textured scarves, and knitted hats with plenty of personality. There is thoughtful construction behind each piece, along with colors and textures that make getting dressed a little more enjoyable.

Rooted in Japan’s Sockmaking Tradition

ROTOTO makes its socks in Nara Prefecture, where the local sockmaking industry dates to 1910. The brand works closely with craftspeople in the region, choosing yarns and knitting machines to suit the feel and function of each design.

That might mean a rare specialty machine, an older mechanical knitter, or modern equipment. The choice depends on the product. Materials, machinery, and the experience of the people making each pair all play a part in the result.

The same curiosity runs through the accessories in our fall selection, including scarves that put sock-knitting techniques to a different use.

AIZOME Indigo: Color with a Story

ROTOTO’s AIZOME INDIGO series brings natural indigo dyeing into its knitwear through a collaboration with INDIGO CLASSIC, an atelier in Nara that handles everything from growing indigo plants to preparing the dye and dyeing the finished pieces.

Our selection includes the Aizome Indigo Hanmo Wool Chunky Short Scarf, the Aizome Indigo Washable Merino Beanie, and Aizome Indigo Cotton Wool Waffle Socks. Each is hand-dyed, with variations that give the indigo its individual character.

The scarf combines recycled wool yarn with a chunky knit and a compact shape, fastening by passing one end through an opening in the other. Wear it with charcoal outerwear or a dark denim jacket to bring different shades of blue into the same outfit.

The Alpaca Bouclé Short Muffler

The ROTOTO Alpaca Bouclé Short Muffler is an easy way to add softness and texture around the neckline. Its baby alpaca blend has a looped bouclé surface that traps air, offering warmth in a lightweight scarf.

A built-in opening lets you thread one end through the other, keeping the shape neat. It also folds small enough to slip into a bag when the afternoon warms up. Try it over a simple crewneck or tucked into a wool coat, where the textured surface can stand out against a smoother fabric.

The Merino Lambs Wool Sockstole

The name offers a clue to how it is made. ROTOTO’s Merino Lambs Wool Sockstole is knitted on a sock-knitting machine, drawing inspiration from military tube scarves.

Made from 100% Australian merino lambs’ wool, its dense, chunky knit brings warmth and texture to a fall outfit. Wear it at the neckline of a coat or overshirt, and let its color provide the finishing detail. It is a particularly good companion to denim, brushed cotton, and other fabrics with a little texture of their own.

The Indigo Mil Watch Cap

Inspired by vintage military watch caps, the ROTOTO Indigo Mil Watch Cap applies the brand’s sock-knitting expertise to a densely knitted cotton-blend hat.

Its indigo-dyed yarn develops character with wear, much like denim. The dark blue makes it easy to work into a wardrobe of navy, olive, grey, and brown. Pair it with an overshirt and jeans for a casual combination that feels complete.

Socks Worth Showing Off

ROTOTO’s Nordic Pattern Socks borrow their design from classic Nordic sweaters. Their jacquard construction brings pattern to the ankle, making them a playful finishing touch with sneakers or leather shoes. Let a little show beneath straight-leg denim or cropped trousers.

For a more understated option, the Double Face Crew Socks in Silk & Cotton combine a cotton outer surface with an undyed silk pile lining. The detail is inside the sock, where you can appreciate it every time you put them on.
